Here is a 1980 letter from Sten Friberg, a senior consultant in Oncology at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm (Karolinska’s Nobel Assembly awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine). Speaking of the discovery of the little RNA fragments, “Your ideas and results are simply fascinating,” he wrote to Dr. Mirko Beljanski, asking him to send to Stockholm “copies of all papers and manuscripts dealing with those studies.”

Following orders from the Ministry of Health, the GIGN destroyed Dr. Beljanski’s laboratory. Dr. Beljanski, as well as his wife and many collaborators, including doctors and pharmacists, are prevented from continuing their research and from speaking to the press
