Pancreatic Cancer

The pancreas is an organ that is part of the digestive system. It is lodged between the lower stomach and the spine. It serves two vital functions: it generates key enzymes that help with digestion and the hormones it produces help control blood sugar levels in the body. Cancers of the pancreas are among the most aggressive and are notoriously difficult to treat because the tumors are often diagnosed late and often become resistant to chemotherapy drugs. It is one of the most lethal types of cancer worldwide.

Recent breakthrough in Pancreatic Cancer Research

Pre-clinical research shows that Beljanski’s Pao pereira (Pau pereira) and Rauwolfia vomitoria plant extracts selectively kill cancer cells including pancreatic cancers, without toxicity, and work in synergy with chemotherapy. They even destroy cancer stem cells. Other extracts can help with side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

SYNERGY WITH CHEMOTHERAPY

Pao pereira (Pau pereira) and Rauwolfia vomitoria plant extracts were tested in vitro and on animal models, alone and in combination with gemcitabine, a drug commonly used for treating pancreatic cancer. Both of the extracts plus drug combinations were synergistic in the inhibition of pancreatic cancer cell growth. The synergy is enabled by the extracts unique mechanism of action and by their effective reversal of cancer cell drug resistance.

KNOCKING OFF CANCER RECURRENCE

Cancer stem cells have the capacity for self-renewal, metastasis, and initiation of tumor regrowth. Pao pereira (Pau pereira) and Rauwolfia vomitoria extracts can reduce the number and inhibit the activity of pancreatic cancer stem cells, indicating that the two plant extracts can play a key role in preventing the most vexing aspect of pancreatic cancer: recurrence. SUPPORT FOR CHEMO AND RADIOTHERAPY

Dr. Beljanski developed a preparation of small RNA fragments that provide critical support for patients receiving chemotherapy. He also developed a specific Golden leaf of Ginkgo Biloba’ extract that has the beneficial effect of protecting the body against the negative impact of radiation (prevention and therapeutic action), with positive effect on the liver. This special Ginkgo extract is especially important for breast cancer patients because of the extreme sensitivity of breast tissue to both radiation and surgical damage.

Dr. Mirko Beljanski’s extracts are not gender nor organ specific. After having studied their effects on prostate and ovarian cancer, studies were conducted at Kansas University Medical Center where Beljanski’s Pao pereira (Pau periera) and Rauwolfia vomitoria plant extracts were tested in combination with gemcitabine, a drug commonly used for treating pancreatic cancer. Both of the extracts plus drug combinations were synergistic in the inhibition of pancreatic cancer cell growth. Researchers went on to show that both extracts can reduce the number and inhibit the activity of pancreatic cancer stem cells. Cancer stem cells are a subset of the cells in a tumor that have acquired the capacity for self-renewal, metastasis, and initiation of tumor regrowth.

Dr. Beljanski also developed two additional extracts—a golden leaf Ginkgo extract and preparation of small RNA fragments that provide critical support for patients receiving conventional cancer therapies as are most pancreatic cancer patients.

"The current study is somewhat elaborate. The Pao showed inhibition of all five of the pancreatic cancer cell lines that were studied. Also, the combination of Pao pereira plus Gemcitabine showed synergy in the inhibition of these cancer cell lines. Finally, Pao pereira and Gemcitabine alone and in combination were presented to live mice with pancreatic cancer tumors (PANC-1) which were then serially scanned. The Pao pereira showed significant action in inhibiting tumor growth. And the combination of Pao pereira coupled with Gemcitabine showed even more apparent activity (inhibition). This is the kind of serious science that we love to see with alternative therapies. It appears at this early stage that Pao pereira is worthy of further study – possibly eventually making its way to clinical trials. There are many stages to this of course, but this research is a refreshing clean look at an interesting, potentially effective, new treatment agent for the treatment of pancreatic cancer."

What it says about Pancreatic Cancer

“And what about pancreatic cancer?” she asked, “Do you think we can give it a try?”

I could hear the anxiety in her voice. Pancreatic cancer is a real monster. There are 32,000 people diagnosed each year in the U.S. alone, with a five-year survival rate of less than 5 percent after diagnosis. Pancreatic cancer, just like ovarian cancer, is often diagnosed at a late stage, where the cancer is more advanced, and the tumor tends to become chemo-resistant. There is a compelling need for innovative treatments for both ovarian and pancreatic cancer, including an urgent need for agents that overcome the chemo-resistant characteristics of these tumors.
